Students of this class will be the reporters at camp where they write stories about the people at International Ivy and their activities at camp and their views about current events that week. They will write stories, take pictures and layout the content for a newspaper to be published. In addition, students will create online content like blogs and videos to capture what happened at camp. The teacher will guide students through the creative process and offer suggestions for better journalism.
Young crafters will develop essential skills in the journey into the world of makerspace and the hands-on possibilities of the Cricut machine! We will explore the wonders of creativity and design through the use of the versatile Cricut machine and its application, Design Space. We will learn and use the various functionalities of Cricut while engaging in a series of interactive projects, such as custom t-shirts, tote bags, note book, key chain, greeting cards, stickers, flowers and more!
Students will learn how to create amazing graphic designs inside Canva, one of the world’s leading free graphic design applications and Animoto, an easy drag and drop video maker. The course will cover core skills needed to use Canva efficiently and effectively, including text and typography, shapes and lines, adding icons, pictures, filters, color, alignment and transparency. Students will apply their skills working on different projects like magazine covers, posters, greeting cards, photo collages, vision boards and mind maps. Students will also make stunning videos in minutes using Animoto. During the course, the instructor will cover some basic graphic design theory, which will help make their work stand out.
Genetics is the study of how genes and traits are passed down from one generation to the next. Our genes carry information that affects our health, our appearance, and even our personality! This class will engage its students in hands-on activities to explore the field of genetics. Activities include extracting DNA from onions and strawberries, creating cell and DNA models, studying fingerprints and creating a family tree of traits. Topics covered will include inheritance patterns of traits (dominant/recessive genes), genetic mutation and disease and the use of DNA in forensic science.
