Halloween in July: A Week of Spooky Fun and Creative Learning

This week’s theme was Halloween in July, and campers brought out their October colors to celebrate spooky season under the summer sun! We saw plenty of creative costumes throughout the week, with Harry Potter-themed outfits, complete with wands and robes from all four Hogwarts houses, being a favorite. Mandalorians, princesses, and many other fun characters also made appearances around camp. While the costumes added to the excitement, campers spent the week learning, creating, and working together in a variety of hands-on activities.

Our campers stayed busy exploring new skills across many different classes. In Act It Out, they developed their improvisation skills through script writing and set building, while Anatomy and Surgical Techniques gave them the chance to practice suturing bananas and learn about the lobes of a sheep’s brain through dissection. Escape Rooms challenged campers to solve riddles, decode clues, and even design their own scavenger hunts, while Scratch Beginners introduced them to game design with custom voices and sound effects. In Shark Tank, campers continued developing their products and pitch decks in preparation for presenting to our “sharks” on Friday, and NASA explored everything from building rockets to discovering the life cycle of a star.

The creativity continued into the afternoon as Biomedical Engineering campers learned about joints by designing crutches to support an injured limb, while Filmmaking collaborated on a suspense movie by creating a story and assigning character roles. Lemonade Stand campers tested recipes to find the perfect lemonade flavor while producing promotional videos and advertisements for their stand on Friday. In War and Peace Games, campers strengthened teamwork by building alliances and managing resources through strategic challenges, and in Sticky Science, they created beautiful butterflies using paper and water. It has been another exciting week filled with creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and plenty of Halloween spirit in the middle of summer!
