Wayne’s Spotlight on…Counselor Angie!

Angie is a counselor in Wayne for the first half of the day. This is her first summer with Ivy, and we are very happy to have her!

K: How did you find out about International Ivy?

A: Indeed.com

K: Why did you want to be a counselor?

A: I wanted to experience working with kids because I was also thinking about working with kids as a career, like as a teacher, so this is good experience. It’s been really fun so far.

K: What kind of things do you do as a counselor?

A: I supervise and play with the campers at drop-off and pick-up, and during breaks and lunch. A big part of the job is taking pictures and videos of the kids in class, and sitting in on the classes to observe and help out as needed. I help with whatever the Site Director, Kandace, needs too. I make the nametags for next week, organize themed activities and coloring pages for break, organize and give out camp t-shirts to the new campers each week, put up decorations for the week’s theme, run our Treasure Chest on Fridays…yeah, counselors do a lot!

K: What has been your favorite thing about camp so far?

A: Probably hanging out in the classes when I have the time. That’s really fun. During break, my favorite thing is playing Life and cards with the campers. UNO was really popular the first two weeks, but lately it’s been all about Life.

K: If you could take a class at Ivy, which one would you take?

A: Mock Trial. I liked participating in the trials this week.

K: What do you like to do outside of working at Ivy?

A: Playing games, cooking, my other job (waitressing for old people at Cedar Crest). It’s funny how I go from little kids to old people, and there are actually so many similarities.

K: What do you like to cook?

A: I made salmon yesterday which was really good. Also steak- I make a really good medium rare. I’ve made a pot roast before…pretty much as long. As there is a recipe, I can follow it. I also bake, like pastries and banana bread!
