This week, in our Youngsters’ class, campers learned all about different types of engineers and the buildings they create. On Wednesday, they learned about the 7 types of bridge structures and picked among their group the one that they wanted to build.
Using hole punches, empty paper towel tubes, yarn, masking tape, carboard, and pipe cleaners, the Youngsters made structures in which a Hot Wheel car could ride on, mirroring a bridge made of steel, concrete, stone, and asphalt that cars could drive on.
They learned and experienced first-hand the process engineers go through to solve problems and build accordingly. Many of the Youngsters had to use a trial and error method as building was not a straight-forward process. From making cars to making foosball tables, the art of learning from one’s mistakes was the most important skill they learned in the class!
