Campers in the Minecraft Obstacle Courses class worked together to build an obstacle course on Minecraft for our very own site director Ryan to attempt. On a Wednesday afternoon, Ryan took on their challenge in Minecraft’s survivor mode, his journey projected on the board for everyone in the class to see. The campers created beds for him to respawn, so that his progress would be saved after completing each stage of the course.
The course started underground where Ryan had to solve a camper’s riddles and choose the correct door without creepers behind it. With some trial and error, as well as some help from the expert campers, Ryan was able to pass the tricky tunnels and meet the next camper’s challenge: chambers filled with lava that could only be survived by a series of precise jumps from ladder to ladder or block to block. This proved much more difficult for first-time-Minecraft-player Ryan, who after about 15 minutes, was only able to get halfway across before falling in the lava. Finally, a kind camper took pity and got his avatar across, where it then took a trip on a self-moving mine cart to a beautiful outdoor castle area. Complete with two dining areas, a trampoline tree, and master bedroom, it was a perfect surprise to finish the course.
