Today, our campers had the amazing opportunity to dissect a sheep’s brain. Last class they both designed and colored a paper brain hat, where they learned all the parts and functions of the brain. Today, they started out by setting up the experiment by wearing gloves, aprons, and safety glasses to make sure that the campers are safe throughout. They used instruments such as tweezers, magnifying glasses, and plastic knives to help with the dissection.
After cutting the brain open, they were able to name the basic parts of the brain, such as the cerebellum, the parietal lobe, the anterior, the posterior, and much more. They learned the specific functions of these and how they play a role in the human body.
They also learned many fun facts! They learned how the more wrinkly your brain is, the more knowledge you have, and when you learn new things, it makes a connection in the brain.
Together, they learned a lot with the help of their teacher as well as many educational videos. They had a lot of fun learning about these different parts and dissecting the brain to look at them!
