In our Anatomy and Surgical Techniques class this week, we dove head-first into the exciting field of medicine! We are exploring the parts of the body, brain function, and surgical techniques.
Yesterday, students learned the parts of the brain through an interactive craft. Under the guidance of instructors, the children delved into the brain’s anatomy. By learning which sections of the brain do what, they gained insights into cognition and behavior. The students began coloring worksheets and building paper brain hats as a 3D replication of their own brains! Then, students explored a real brain with the new knowledge they’d gained. Each student got to dissect their own sheep brain!
Today, campers tried their hand at sutures, just like real surgeons. They practiced stitches on bananas, and even used ketchup as blood to give their “surgery” a realistic effect. These future doctors did a great job at stitching, and we can’t wait to see what the class learns next!
