The Anatomy and Surgical Technique class is an awesome learning experience for students who are interested in biology and medicine! Campers investigate how the body works by utilizing microscopes, simulating surgeries, and learning how to suture. Students also learn about important medical/surgical breakthroughs and famous medical marvels throughout history.
To start the week, campers learned all about cells, which are the most basic unit of life. They got competitive while trying to guess what was under the microscope from a photo, learned the parts of the microscope, how to focus it on a sample, and looked at slides with samples of different tissues and organs. The slide with cells from a dog esophagus was especially popular among our young scientists!
Campers also learned about the parts of the cell and how those organelles work together. To show their understanding, they created analogies comparing the parts of the cell to different systems. For example, one student compared the cell to a restaurant, while another student compared the cell to a factory! Their creativity really shined through!!
