It’s been an exciting day at Short Hills, packed with hands-on learning, creative thinking, and the launch of one of camp’s favorite traditions—Color War!

In our Python programming class, campers have been hard at work learning how to write interactive code. Today, they created a number-guessing game that randomly selects a number and asks the user to guess it. Using “if” and “else” statements, the program gives a response based on whether the guess is correct or not—and even loops back for endless rounds of fun. It’s been a great way for campers to practice logic and coding skills while building something they can actually play.
Over in Sticky Science, the topic of the day was light. Campers explored how light behaves, learning about absorption and reflection through interactive discussion and demonstrations. They used their own arms to simulate wave motion and even worked with a slinky to visualize how frequency and wave movement work.

And while learning is in full swing, Color War has officially begun! Campers have been divided into four teams—Green, Blue, Black, and Red—and team spirit is already running high. The first challenge, Hula Hoop Trivia, kicks off today, where teams can earn points by answering questions correctly while working together in a hula hoop challenge.
With learning in the classrooms and friendly competition on the field, today at Short Hills has been the perfect mix of brainpower, teamwork, and camp fun. We can’t wait to see how the rest of Color War unfolds!
