Things got messy in our 3D Art and Sculpture class! Today the campers learned how to create sculptures out of clay. This involved taking a wet piece of clay, molding it, rolling it, and shaping it into objects!
The clay was at first difficult to work with, but we learned that adding water to the clay can make it easier to shape. Besides their hands, campers used tiny dowels to add texture and carve in patterns.
The original goal was to sculpt faces out of clay, but the kids decided to go a different route. One camper molded breakfast foods–pancakes, waffles, bacon, and a cupcake! Another camper created a butterfly, and yet another crafted a plane out of clay. Even the counselors joined in on the fun!
We can’t wait to see what the campers do with other mediums this week, including beans, mosaic pieces, and paper-mache!
