This week at Short Hills, aspiring pilots dove into their interest in aeronautical engineering through drone programming. The drone programming course teaches students to program drones and master efficient maneuvering techniques.

When students first opened up their drones, they were excited to get started with flying them around. However, they soon realized the importance of programming their drones to function properly prior to learning how to control them in flight.

Once the students completed programming their drones, they were tasked with learning takeoff and landing techniques. One by one, each student would attempt to take off their drone from the ground and guide it over towards a chair. Once the drone is hovering over the chair, the student changes their focus from flying to lowering and landing the drone.
Take off and landing modifications.
In between take off and landing attempts, students learned that modifications to their drone would be necessary to find success in future flight tasks. Modifications include reprogramming the drones, adjusting the drone’s battery, and making sure propellers are functioning correctly.

Students look forward to working on future tasks as they continue to master flight control and dive deeper into the field of aeronautical engineering.
