This week our campers became scientists as they entered the dissection laboratory. In our Anatomy class, our young scientists had the opportunity to dissect their own sheep’s brain! Did you know that a sheep’s brain has all the same parts as a human brain?
After opening up their kits, campers read all about how to dissect the sheep brain and the different parts they would be able to examine. Then campers got to work slicing and analyzing the brain.
After making their first incision, they identified parts such as the optic nerve, brain stem, and the cerebellum. Then as they explored further into the brain, they were able to identify the hindbrain, olfactory bulbs, and the optic nerve. Campers discussed the purpose of each part of the brain and their functions.
We can’t wait to see what these young scientist discover next!
