Genetics is the study of how genes and traits are passed down from one generation to the next. Our genes carry information that affects our health, our appearance, and even our personality! This class will engage its students in hands-on activities to explore the field of genetics. Activities include extracting DNA from onions and strawberries, creating cell and DNA models, studying fingerprints and creating a family tree of traits. Topics covered will include inheritance patterns of traits (dominant/recessive genes), genetic mutation and disease and the use of DNA in forensic science.
