Environmental Science, Ages 9-11

Description:
Discover the wonders of the natural world and learn how to care for our planet in this engaging and hands-on Environmental Science class! Designed for curious minds, this course dives into the ecosystems around us, the challenges facing our environment, and the creative solutions we can use to protect it.

What We’ll Explore:

  • Ecosystems in Action: Study how plants, animals, and humans interact within ecosystems and why balance is key.
  • The Science of Conservation: Learn about endangered species, pollution, and the importance of recycling and renewable energy.
  • Water, Air, and Soil: Investigate the essential elements of life on Earth and how we can keep them healthy.
  • Climate Change Awareness: Understand the effects of climate change and brainstorm ways to reduce its impact.

Hands-On Activities:

  • Build a Terrarium: Create a miniature sustainable ecosystem to observe the water and carbon cycles in action.
  • Water Filtration Experiment: Design and test your own water filter to clean polluted water.
  • DIY Wind Turbine: Build a simple wind turbine and explore how renewable energy works.
  • Recycled Art Project: Turn everyday waste into a creative masterpiece.
  • Soil Quality Testing: Analyze soil samples to understand how nutrients and pH levels affect plant growth.
  • Tree Identification Walk: Go on a nature walk and learn how to identify local tree species while discussing their role in the ecosystem.
  • Composting Station: Start a mini composting project to learn how organic waste can be turned into nutrient-rich soil.

About International Ivy

International Ivy strives to promote the best learning environment for students between the age of 4-14 in subjects such as Robotics, Video Game Creation, Computer Programming, Digital Design, Science, Math, Business, Language Arts, Visual Arts and more.

Located at various locations throughout New Jersey, International Ivy has served almost 10,000 students since its founding in 2011 and has grown to be one of the largest academic and technology camps in the state.
