Podcasting and Finding Your Voice, Ages 11-14

Step up to the mic and let your voice be heard! In this exciting podcasting class, students will learn how to craft compelling stories, build confidence, and share their unique perspectives with the world. Inspired by The Moth and its lessons on storytelling, this class focuses on discovering your voice, connecting with an audience, and creating podcasts that leave an impact.

 

What We’ll Explore:

  • The Art of Storytelling: Learn techniques from The Moth on structuring stories, finding emotional connections, and captivating your audience.
  • Podcast Basics: Explore the elements of podcast production, including planning, scripting, recording, and editing.
  • Finding Your Voice: Build confidence as you develop your personal style and tone for storytelling.
  • Interview Skills: Practice asking meaningful questions and conducting engaging interviews.
  • Technical Skills: Understand how to use recording equipment and editing software to create a polished final product.

 

Hands-On Activities:

  1. Storytelling Workshop:
    • Practice storytelling techniques inspired by The Moth, focusing on structure, emotion, and authenticity.
    • Share personal anecdotes and receive constructive feedback to improve delivery.
  2. Podcast Planning:
    • Brainstorm podcast themes, episode ideas, and potential interview subjects.
    • Create episode outlines and learn the art of crafting a compelling introduction.
  3. Recording and Editing:
    • Use simple recording tools to create professional-quality audio.
    • Learn editing basics to enhance sound quality, add music, and create transitions.
  4. Interview Practice:
    • Conduct mock interviews with classmates, focusing on asking thoughtful questions and active listening.
  5. Live Storytelling Showcase:
    • Present a short, Moth-inspired story in front of the class to practice public speaking and storytelling skills.
  6. Launch a Mini Podcast:
    • Work individually or in small groups to create a 5-10 minute podcast episode on a topic of choice, complete with storytelling, interviews, and sound editing.

International Ivy strives to promote the best learning environment for students between the age of 4-14 in subjects such as Robotics, Video Game Creation, Computer Programming, Digital Design, Science, Math, Business, Language Arts, Visual Arts and more.

Located at various locations throughout New Jersey, International Ivy has served almost 10,000 students since its founding in 2011 and has grown to be one of the largest academic and technology camps in the state.
