Resident Somerset favorite Kenny taught one of our popular classes this week, Civil Engineering – Bridges and Buildings. During the week, students created hands-on bridges, towers, and buildings and simulated what happens to these structures during earthquakes. The class built a Shake Table using foam squares, foam boards, plastic tube rolls, hex nuts, tape, and rubber bands. Campers learned what goes into becoming a successful engineering. The Engineering Design Process was at the center of each lesson. The five steps include Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, and Improve. Campers learned that failure is a good thing and that it is part of being engineer. We had so much fun this week and have inspired campers with a future career as a civil engineer!
